Malaysia Book of Records - Largest Fitness Clinic 2006

Last Sunday on 19th March, Malaysia saw itself entering the Malaysia Book of Records once again by holding the Largest Fitness Clinic, an event where a total of 2,421 "healthy" participants from 11 teams gathered at the open field at Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya. The event was organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and was officiated by Datuk Ong Tee Kiat, Deputy Minister of Higher Education. Two beautiful red "lions" greeted and welcomed Yang Berhormat.

Before his arrival, all participants lined up at arms' length within boxes created for each participating team. After the speeches, certificates were presented by Datuk Ong to the various association leaders and co-sponsors. The mother of all certificates awardance was without doubt the one for the books-Malaysia Book of Records for the Largest Fitness Clinic. Earlier, a guided, warming exercise for everyone (VIPs included) was conducted to set the pace. Each team took part in performing on the stage, demonstrating the essence of its exercise regime; from the slow and stylistic movements of Tai Chi, Qigong and the like to the more aggressive ones like Wushu and Taekwondo, all aimed to deliver a common objective-to promote a fit and healthy lifestyle. Participants, consisting of all races, were made up both "seniors", "juniors" and all those in between. The 11 teams are:

• KL Taekwon-Do & Self-Defense Academy
• Persatuan Hexiang Zhuang Qigong WP
• Persatuan Seni Beladiri Shudokan (Aikido Yoshinkan) Msia
• Pertubuhan Waitankung & Neitankung Msia
• Gabungan Persatuan Taiji Qigong Bercorak 18 SeMalaysia
• Zen Okinawa Traditional Shorin-Dyu Karate-Do & Kobudo Selangor
• Wushudao Martial Arts
• Young Club
• KSN Taekwondo & Sport Club; KSN Taekwondo Academy
• Latihan Kong Fu Wing Choon; Yip Fook Choy
• Persatuan Tern Yun Gong Msia

In one of the performances, the China Soaring Crane Qigong ("CSCQ") team, demonstrated with a difference. Instead of performing the five routines one by one or a particular chosen routine, did all five by five rows of participants, each presenting a different routine, accompanied by two participants at the side of each wing to demonstrate the artistic flair of the crane-the basis for its origination and the creation by Master Zhao Jinxiang in 1980. A commentator for the Persatuan Hexiang Zhuang Qigong described a little bit of the history of CSCQ and the way to harness the "chi" (or energy) within oneself via the practising of the crane qigong routines. The clinic commenced right after the team demonstrations where interested individuals observed the routine performances displayed by all the practitioners. Alongside the field facing the main road were exhibition booths of the various associations/teams introducing and promoting their programmes and where further enquiries can be made. Participants were seen to roam by the booths, buying souvenirs, registering for free newsletters on upcoming events and updates as well as enquiring on programmes offered by the associations. There were booklets, brochures, programme leaflets, photo gallery on stand and video presentations. Lucky draws were held towards the end of the event when it finshed at about noon. Overall event was well-organised.

The news on the event was broadcasted on NTV7. View the news http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpcuP0_yBYA(here). Apologies for the low video quality.
